The Rare Universe

Welcome to The Rare Universe, the universe that holds most of my stories, and the setting I have dedicated over ten years of worldbuilding to. Explore the island nation of Optyma and its impact on my alternate version of Earth. Optyma will be featured in:

The Rare Souls TrilogyThe Black Herons, and several other unnamed projects.

Optyma

In 1806, the Atlantic island was discovered by European explorer Adam Dux, who later founded the nation in 1820 as the first president. The island is full of supernatural mysteries, and a historic civil war later altered its impact on the world.

These supernatural mysteries include the ambiguous deity, Klypt, and her four Core Stones, a set of gems that can temporarily grant special individuals with unique powers of the elements.

You can learn more about Optyma and its history in my books, The Rare Souls Trilogy and The Black Herons.

New Harbor

New Harbor is described as the most significant outcome of the Optyman War. Formerly Baltimore, New Harbor was rebuilt along the East Coast after the city was bombed during the war in the late 2030s.

People refer to the city as "Baltimore" or "New Baltimore" still. However, the government organization responsible for overseeing the city's reconstruction wanted it to have a fresh start.

New Harbor is the main setting for Fire in Flight and The Rare Souls Trilogy, and will explore the outcome of the Optyman Civil War.

Who are the Rare?

In the Rare Universe, these stories have sci-fi and magical realism elements that tie directly into Optyma and the mysterious deity, Klypt.

The Rare Souls are individuals who gain powers by holding one of Klypt's Core Stones. It is theorized that the compatibility of one's "soul" is the reason behind these abilities, and they may have a spiritual connection to Klypt.

The Rare Mutations are individuals who are born with a physical anomaly (not exactly a "power," but a mutation at birth). One example is someone being born with red eyes, which is very abnormal. These "mutations" are tied back to Klypt and the Rare Souls. They do not need to hold a Core Stone to discover any anomalies, and instead, are born with the mutation.

The short term "Rare" refers to the Rare Souls but may also include the Rare Mutations.
